Walking around my garden or along local footpaths I am always fascinated by the constant changes taking place, either as part of the cycle of nature or human interaction with it.  The desire to keep things as they are, balanced with the need to progress interests me.  Looking back to the past there is evidence of layer upon layer of collective working of the land, moving boundaries, colonising new ground - making our mark on the planet.  Being a gardener connects me with the natural environment and makes me realise how much we depend on her. It is these two themes that I have chosen to explore in work for this show.

Abstract representations of footpaths and boundaries are mixed with more realistic natural forms. Seed heads and trees are used to symbolise seasons and cycles of regeneration. When depicting the human impact on the environment I like to use layers of paint mimicking the passage of time.  Colours are often muted to give a sense of loss or uncertainty.

'Along the path' for me has both literal and metaphorical connotations.  It is both a celebration of our environment and a reflection of what we are doing to it.
